Ran a barn sale at my parents' place last week. Got bored and was supposed to make a sign for The Best Rock Ever, which was just a rock with a $20 price tag reading "The Best Rock Ever." Never got around to that, but I did make up some other signs for various items using index cards, a Sharpie, and a box of slightly used crayons that for some reason were in a sale pile. Many items were in groups and not individually tagged, and their current signage was not drawing due attention. The general idea was to make them in the mold of Ohio discount supermarket chain Marc's signage, which featured similar, strange illustrations.
First, I simply asked my older brother what would be a good thing to put on a clothing sign. His response? A kangaroo... with a taco. License to print money, yo.
Next came the porcupine on a pogo stick (which I made purple) to hawk books.
The most controversial was the third: my mother's items needed advertising, too. She had a wicker set which -- although already tagged -- she wanted a sign for. I agreed, so long as she abode by my brother's decision. That decision? A crocodile... in a banana hammock... with a pink triangle on it. I downplayed the banana factor greatly, although I did add a phone (yes, kiddies -- that's what they used to look like) on which he participated in late night gay sex chats. Strangely enough, everything but the crocodile came from early conversation at the barn sale. Hmm, maybe we scared away customers? Or not, since this sign worked. The wicker went, and he stepped up to an entertainment cabinet, as indicated by the smooooooth editing job.
Finally, to sell anime posters, the thing which typifies anime the best: an ostrich chef... who is a robot. And not one of them sold, somehow. I know, can you believe it?
Had to re-up this thing since it was originally titled "Advertising Genius" instead of "Signage Genius." I forgot that devArt goes by the deviation title -- not the original file name like Coppermine -- to name the file, and AdBlock will kill any image that begins with the letters "a" and "d." Not AdBlock's fault, but I know a lot of idiot Fox users (and thanks to thinking its revolutionary, plenty of 'em are) would be confuzzled by no image, so I gotsta changed it.
